SetToDestroy X-Posed: Falln

It's always thrilling to see a game series you played as a child gain a competitive side in esports. I have researched a variety of games before, but this is perhaps the most interesting one I have ever encountered. Christopher 'falln' Rugg joined SetToDestroyX a couple of weeks ago and is starting to show great potential as a Super Smash Bros 4 pro. Recently, he placed 9th in singles and 3rd in doubles at 'Battle of BC 2' and placed 17th in singles and 9th in doubles at '2GGC: Nario Saga' both in the beginning of June. He also had notable placings in May taking 2nd in singles for 'Mega Smash Mondays 96' and 'Mega Smash Mondays 97.' His most recent claim to fame is placing 1st in singles for 'Port Priority' the end of last month.  While the future is still unpredictable, falln has been turning heads left and right as he aims to jump from 30's to 20's on the leaderboards. If you don't follow SSB4 in esports, this is the right guy to make you want to get involved either as a player or spectator. Lately, I got a chance to talk with him, in depth, about his life in competitive gaming and got his insight on how he feels about SSB4's future in esports.

The characters are amazing people and the plot has some unexpected twists and turns. Stop me if you've heard this one, because I would really like to identify the voice in my head. Now, I present to you, the one-hundred percent truthful story of working for SetToDestroyX for almost seven months (and counting).

GBU Review: Turtle Beach Elite Pro Series & Stream Mic

A few days ago, I received a mysterious package in the mail. I don't usually order things online, so I wasn't sure what it was. It turns out I was blessed with a care package from SetToDestroyX. As their little writer, I do things here or there, but I'm excited for the chance to review something of such outstanding quality from our new sponsorship with Turtle Beach. I've used a bit on the lower end of their headsets (Recon 50X), and found myself impressed with the quality for the price. After researching the retail value of the products I was sent, I had high expectations for the performance quality and user friendly accessibility. Whether or not my expectations were met, well, I'll let the reviews speak for themselves.

SetToDestroyX: Madden Mayhem

The start and finish of the Madden Challenge for EA Sports' Madden 17 seemed to come and go all too quickly this early April. Players battled it out for a chance at a share of $150K. While the competition was fierce, in the end, the winner became Matt "BeastModeMac" Clark. For some, the high of the last event may be a wave they are still riding, but for others, the preparation for the Madden Championship in May has never stopped.

The Ultimate Knife Challenge

When it comes to the Call of Duty franchise, everyone seems to want to be an all around pro of some sort, whether it's in league play or hardcore. I, myself, have found myself wanting to make a name for myself in Black Ops 2. While the CoD franchise has moved on well past this game, I deeply fell in love with the Ballistic Knife. Now, I know there are several know CoD knifers out there and that's great, but the way I want to be known is seemingly...well...odd.

SetToDestroyX: Competition and Class

When I think about esports, the first thing that comes to my mind is fierce competition and, believe it or not, drama. Yes, drama. Now, I'm not bashing any organization or team, but I remember when some brands took some hard hits because of heated, unnecessary drama. Back when Halo 2 was on the radar for professional gaming, competition was rare and real. Heading the start of a revolution, image was everything and so was respect, as Final Boss came to show. However, when esports started pushing into newer games and started branching out, it seemed things started taking a nose dive.

Destruction and Madness

I used to think gaming was all competition and business. If you asked me a year ago if I thought a big esports organization could operate like a giant family, I probably would have shrugged and hesitantly replied with 'Yeah, I guess.' It seemed to me like the trend was becoming all work, no play and a lot of drama. Some groups seemed to get too big and it was hard to keep track of who was a member or professional gamer. Something about the industry made me sick to keep tabs on and I pulled back my support. After following a friend of mine's ventures around different groups, I finally realized a group he had settled with started to change my views about the typical esports organization.
